CLIMB TO KAISER UTILIZES ARACC COMMUNICATIONS

June 30, 2007 -- It's one of the toughest courses available to cyclist around the world. The route is downright dangerous in some spots. Fresno Cyling Club organizers sought hams from ARACC to help them keep in touch with the strategic rest stops to enhance cell phone capabilities. However, cell coverage is spotty in most mountainous areas, so the need is readily evident.

The Saturday began early -- 0430 -- at a Base Command established at a local high school. It wound up back at the base around 2300 that evening.

Participants included ARACC members: Bud/KI6KAP, Richard/K6RCV, Taylor/W2LDS, Sherie/KI6IPB, John/KG6AWB, (Pat/KG6BXZ was confined at home recovering from knee surgery, but managed to check in a few times), Burt/WA6PTG, Gene/KI6JCX, Daryl/KI6JCY, Kim/KF6ZSW and Gene/W7POR.

Fresno Cycling officials expressed their gratitude for a job well done. "Go ARACC!"

ARACC WORKS THE 2007 WASHBOARD 100

May 19, 2007-FRESNO -- ARACC members proved their expert communications skills by linking up with yet another community event. This time the CVC held its "Washboard 100" Bicycle run. It was a challenging 100 mile course that began at Woodward Park in Fresno and extended through Raymond and back. Cell Phone coverage is lacking throughout much of the course, and ARACC provided the Health and Safety contacts with "Base Command" at the park from 0600 to 1430.

Daryl/KI6JCY is set up on the course near Friant for "Rest Stop One."

Richard/K6RCV, Gene/W7POR, Kim/KF6ZSW and Taylor/W2LDS hold down Command duties at Woodward Park.

Those who participated included Kim/KF6ZSW, Richard/K6RCV, Daryl/KI6JCY, Gene/KI6JCX, John/KG6AWB, Pat/KG6BXZ, Taylor/W2LDS, and Gene/W7POR.

Congratulations to an excellent communications team!
